Millwork Draftsman – Chief Detailer

We are a high-end custom millwork contactor specializing in corporate interiors, building entry-ways, and other high-end finished millwork in Southern California. We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual to lead our architectural drafting/engineering department.

Job Duties –

  • Ensure that all architectural drawings and documents are received in proper order and all pertinent sheets are coordinated, date stamped, and properly identified.
  • Ensure that all engineered labor estimates, material estimates, stockbills, material optimizations, requisitions, material takeoffs, CADD cabinet programs, and work-orders meet or exceed company specifications, as detailed in the job specification for all management software input quality aspects, including requisitions for purchasing of materials.
  • Ensure that all engineered drawings meet or exceed the architect/designer’s specifications as detailed in the job specification for all quality aspects, including purchasing of materials, milling, assembly, finishing, and installation.
  • Ensure that all missing information is relayed to the Project Manager in a timely manner so that he can generate a request for information to the general contractor or the architect and that, in the case of a problem created by the architectural drawings or specifications, alternate suggestions are available to the Project Manager for presentation to the contractor or architect.
  • Ensure that all documents—engineered drawings, sketches (SKs), stockbills, CADD cabinet programs etc.—adhere to company standards, as determined by the Chief Engineer.
  • Review all engineered drawings and details that are drawn by assistants or associates to ensure that they meet job specifications. Use project engineer’s checklist to ensure that drawings are complete before submitting to Project Manager for approval.
  • Ensure that all engineered drawings/details and door schedules related to the job follow the appropriate time frame to ensure that all components of the job meet the timeline as defined by the subcontract and as specified by the architect, designer, or contractor and Project Manager.
  • Ensure that all engineering equipment is in proper order and any service calls for repairs are arranged through the Chief Detailer when needed, including maintaining proper inventory of all paper, ink, and reproduction supplies that are in the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure that any and all delays of engineered drawings, request for information (RFI’s), and related documents are appropriately addressed by the Project Manager, Estimator, and/or Production Superintendent so that all outside parties are put on notice of any delays.
  • Qualifications –

  • Multiple years' experience in commercial millwork and cabinetry.
  • Ability to develop millwork and cabinet construction documents (CD’s), using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and interpret verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage production of multiple drawings and projects at the same time and the ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate ability to use AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word and basic computer skills; Microvellum skills are a very big plus.
  • Familiarity with code compliance using current State and Local codes a plus.
