Lacewood veneer, a species previously imported from Australia in large quantities, is a controlled export wood veneer today. We were challenged on this project to find veneer that would give the same feel as the large log that was previously used.
The lacewood veneer currently available comes in small bundles, mostly from South America, and is not the lacewood available in years past. Our solution was to take several small lacewood logs and bleach, neutralize, and stain them to match the previous project.
We were additionally challenged by having to work evenings in occupied areas and leaving the areas ready for the following day’s activities. We overcame these and other challenges by working hand-in-hand to develop strategies with the architect, contractor, and client.
